Short Update

Posted in Uncategorized on August 16th, 2009 by Zach

Just wanted to let you know what’s been going on the last week or so. Obviously last weekend we didn’t get much done considering we were out of town all day Saturday and I ended up taking a day off and just relaxed Sunday. The I worked all week up until Friday but I didn’t receive much help from anyone besides Dereck, so we were limited to how much stuff we could get done. Saturday me and Dereck headed to Menard’s and got lot more lumber for the floor of the fun house as well as some more walls. We got the floor together and put down Saturday night with the help of my dad. Sunday I will be working on some odds and ends stuff and hopefully get some smaller stuff I’ve been putting off done.

We will be back to working full force THURSDAY AUGUST 20th. If you are free please come out and help get stuff done!

Also, pictures will start to go up hopefully tomorrow. I have many photos from past weekends I haven’t gotten around to putting up yet, so look for them the next couple days!

Haunt Actor Workshop (HAW)

Yesterday Ryan, Tanner, Derek, Brandon, and myself headed to Cedar Rapids to go to Frightmare Forest’s Haunt Actor Workshop. We headed out around 10:30 or so and got there just over an hour later. We started out by taking a guided tour of their haunt with some of their actors as well as one of the owners, Ian. After there we hung out in the back of the forest for a little bit before heading to some seminars they had prepared for us. They talked about various subjects that all related to running a haunted house correctly and in the end they had a small class that showed us how to do some different makeup techniques. Come sun set, they opened the doors and allowed us, as well as some family members to go through the haunt while it was actually up and running with actors inside! Tanner and Brandon chose to actually work in the haunt while Ryan, Derek and myself chose to go through. We all had a great time and loved meeting everyone who works as a part of their crew

Another Update!

Things around here have been crazy! Home SCREAM Home is coming right along, and at this rate could be finished up in just a couple days! We’ve worked on the haunt all week long and I was in need of a break so I took Wednesday off to relax a bit as well as work on getting our final fliers ready for printing! Things are really coming together for this year’s haunt and it’s only the first week in August!

We will be back to work on the haunt again tomorrow and work well into the evening. I’ve found that it’s much easier to work as sunset due to the fact that it’s stinkin’ hot out during the day! On to the latest pictures!

It’s Begun!

Thursday night, after working on getting some more walls built and painted… My dad as well as some volunteers were sitting talking about what to do next… We thought about putting down the floor, but didn’t want to rush it, as on Saturday we will be having a large crew come to help get everything put together… After debating it a bit, we decided to go for it! Within two hours all the frames, as well as the OSB was laid and screwed together!

Then Friday after getting back from my weekly trips to Menard’s, we finished getting the floor ready, and then began work on the facade. The facade is nearly double the size that it was last year… This thing is HUGE! We got all the panels from the facade screwed together and ready to be put up in place. It was CJ, my brother Nick was in town, my dad, and myself all lined up down the length of the facade… And with one big pull, the facade was lifted up into place! We added some walls to the floor to help support the weight of it all, as we’ll get the rest of the house completed tomorrow on our big setup day!
